Without Captain Beth Bolton and Amy Jennings, our team was down to just seven players and no subs. This did not deter our Wanderers putting up a strong fight.
Eleanor put in a superb display of tackling, running and long distance shooting.
At half time we were 2 – 0 down but had hit the post twice and the cross bar once.
The second half and Izzy quickly scored and the match erupted. Our girls got very physical much to the annoyance of the opposing fans. Leah was outstanding again with
a combination of skilful runs and excellent tackling. Frankie was a rock in goal for the second half. Becks never stopped running and showed all the experience she has gained during her three seasons with Woodbank.
This was not our day. Eleanor and Izzy rained shots at the Flixton net. But to no avail. Flixton grabbed a late goal to secure the match 3 – 1 but that didn’t tell the full story.
They choose Jenny as their opposition player of the match. My player of the match was an easy choice of Eleanor who took her Captains role seriously and constantly posed a theat.
