Woodbank Wanderers vs Deans Sports (League)

After a Friday night of training in blizzard conditions, our Wanderers could have been forgiven for not being up for Saturdays game against Deans. Also without the mighty Beth and Izzy, they were down to seven girls and no subs.
Frankie, Ele, Meg, Amy, Jen, Leah and Becks. The Magnificent Seven. Deans didn’t stand a chance.

The first half was dominated by our Wanderers with some excellent passing movements and attacks. Jen peppered the goal with shots from every angle. She finally broke the deadlock with a right foot rocket of a shot. At half time the score was amazingly only one nil to our Wanderers.
Deans must have thought they had a chance when the second half started.
Tracy and Jill had gone to get a coffee at half time and came back three minutes after the second half had re-started. By that time it was already 4 – 0!!
Jen hit a scorching shot into the top of the net. Ele made a skilful run around three defenders before sending the goalie the wrong way. Leah met a corner from Ele with a brilliant header. I stood and admired a team in total command.
Ele ran the Deans defence ragged with skilful runs and crosses. Leah dominated the midfield and can’t stop scoring this season. Becks the Brave tackled relentlessly and stopped every attack in its tracks. Amy was in a class of her own and improves with every game.
Meg covered every blade of grass not allowing Deans a second on the ball.
Today belonged however to Frankie and Jen who between them captained our Wanderers like true champions. Jen blasted two further goals to grab yet another hattrick. Her speed and shooting skills are outstanding. Frankie is a natural team player who holds the team together with a combination of determination and intelligent teamwork.
Final score 6 – 1. Opposition player award went to Jen. My award went to Meg for a brilliant performance.
This was the Wanderers at their true best. Today they could have beaten any team.
I just stood back and enjoyed. Especially the second half. Well done.
