Warriors v Urmston Meds

This was the 2nd meeting against this team, which are a quality team. The last result was 4-0 to them, so we knew that it was going to be another tough one, but with the close result from the previous week against Unicorn, the girls knew they were easily good enough.

With a full squad, as usual the girls set out strong and defended well, but also created themselves some goal opportunities, with a fantastic left footed effort from Bronya that got pushed over the crossbar by the goalie. Hard work from Emily, Megan Hannah, and some great use of speed from Sophie all made for a much better game than the previous one.

2nd half underway and an offer of cash for goals from Vikky set the Warriors off. But I'm afraid not even that managed to bag us a goal, not that we didn't deserve any. Some fantastic defending again from Anna and Megan W, and top class performance from Beth caused the Urmston attack no end of problems. But 5 Minutes from the end, Urmston gained a corner and headed in a goal. No fault of our goalie Fi who had played faultless throughout. The last 5 minutes saw the Warriors give one last attempt to draw equal, but I'm afraid luck was against us. This game deserved to be a draw.

Some encouraging words from their manager only cemented what we already knew, that our team were definitely an improving side.

My girl of the game went to Fi for a great goalkeeping job and the opposition vote went to Beth for another top class defending role.

Ultimately we would have preferred a draw after that performance but hopefully everyone can see that these games are becoming much, much closer and it is only a matter of time as long as we keep our heads up and keep training and playing the way we are. Well done everyone.
