Well, this was the first game back after Christmas, and 2007 kicked off with a tough opponent. This was our 2nd meeting and the result from the first game being a very close 1-0 win to them, I kinda hoped it would be another close game.
I think our girls were still full of Christmas pudding and Cadbury's Heroes though, the game started off OK, we were holding our own and defended well enough. But eventually Poynton started to pass the ball around very well, and this caused some real problems and they managed to put in 2 very quick goals. We managed to get one back with a very well struck ball from Jen, great goal. Half time and the score was 3-1. Not an impossible goal difference to pull back from and the girls were starting to play better in the last 10 minutes of the first half, so I had a fairly positive attitude for the 2nd half.
I'm afraid that Poynton didn't share my thoughts, as they basically came out and caused some real damage, final score a disappointing 9-1. I think that on another day when the Wanderers are playing as I know they can, this score could have been very different, so I think we draw a line under this one and concentrate on the rest of the season.
Oh, and this Friday, we will be practicing throw-ins.
My girl of the game went to Beth and the opposition chose Ell as theirs.
